What is print book formatting?
Print book formatting — also called interior layout or typesetting — is the process of converting a manuscript into a print-ready PDF that meets the technical specifications of print-on-demand platforms like Amazon KDP, IngramSpark, and Barnes & Noble Press. It involves selecting appropriate fonts and type sizes, setting margins and gutters for the trim size, designing chapter headings, adding front and back matter, setting page numbers, and exporting in the correct format and color profile. A properly formatted print book is visually indistinguishable from a traditionally typeset title. Before print formatting, make sure your manuscript has completed copy editing — formatting a manuscript that still needs correction wastes both time and money.

Who is this for?
Authors with a complete, edited manuscript ready for print
Your manuscript is copy-edited and content-final. Now you need it transformed into the professional interior layout that will sit inside your printed book — indistinguishable in quality from any traditionally published title.
First-time self-publishers uploading to KDP or IngramSpark
Print-on-demand platforms have precise technical requirements — incorrect margins, wrong bleed settings, or non-embedded fonts will get your file rejected. We produce correctly specified files the first time, saving you the back-and-forth with KDP's support team.
Authors who tried to format their own book and weren't satisfied
DIY formatting with Word or basic templates produces interior layouts that look exactly like DIY formatting. Readers notice. Professional typesetting uses the same tools and conventions as traditional publishers — the result looks nothing like a template.
Our process
- 01
Submit manuscript and confirm specifications
Send your final, edited manuscript and confirm your trim size, platform targets (KDP, IngramSpark, or both), and whether your interior is black-and-white or color. We'll recommend options if you're unsure.
- 02
Initial layout
We handle the full interior layout — typography, chapter headings, front matter, and back matter. We share updates as we work so you always know where things stand. For most manuscripts, this takes 3–5 business days.
- 03
Proof review
We send you a PDF proof for your review and approval. You check page breaks, chapter headings, front matter details, and overall appearance. Your satisfaction with the proof is required before any final files are produced — revision notes come back to us in one round.
- 04
Final delivery
We incorporate your approved revisions and deliver final print-ready PDF files for each platform. Files are ready to upload directly to your KDP and IngramSpark accounts — we handle all the platform logistics so you don't have to.
